Client Information Confidentiality

Confidentiality is one of the core values of the social work profession. The National Association of Social Workers identifies confidentiality as one of the ethical obligation of a social worker towards his / her client.

It is very important that the client’s right to privacy is respected and protected. It should be ensured that any piece of confidential information is only disclosed with the consent of the person using the social work services. The belief that the social worker will keep his/ her information confidential encourages the client to open up and share their problems freely. This helps in getting a speedy and efficient solution to the client’s problem.
